The day trip for those who want to see the Apuseni unfiltered: the route follows the Răchițele – Doda Pilii – Ic Ponor area, past the Firii Valley, and the landscape gradually becomes wilder.
Driving route: Măgura Cabins → Bălcești → Răchițele → Doda Pilii → Ic Ponor. Return — the same road or the route suggested by Google Maps, depending on road conditions.
What you'll see: a valley surrounded by forests and wooded slopes; the Ic Ponor area is a starting point for many Apuseni trails, including towards the Padiș karst area.
For hikers: in the Firii Valley area there are trails towards caves and karst sights — but treat them as separate tours, with time, proper footwear and good orientation. On a first visit, the drive itself is the objective. Check road conditions before setting off.
